RULES OF GOLF 2023
The next edition of the Rules of Golf becomes effective on 1 January 2023 and copies will be distributed in October 2022 to all golf clubs in Great Britain & Ireland free of charge by The R&A, with the support of Rolex.
You will be aware that since the last distribution of the Rule book, the Rules have become even more accessible through free digital formats, particularly via The R&A’s Rules of Golf app. The R&A is focussing even more on our digital formats of the Rules for the 2023 edition to ensure that access is easy, modern and sustainable.
We will not be printing the Player’s Edition of the Rules for 2023, and will be encouraging all golfers to access the Rules via the Rules App, which they can consult on their phones during a round of golf and elsewhere.
On this basis, it is only the full Rules of Golf that will be printed and distributed, and our focus will be on ensuring that the key competition administrators in your Club have access to a printed copy.
As a result of our digital focus, the 2023 Rules ‘pack’ delivered to your Club will be smaller than in the past and will contain:
- A letter to the Club introducing the new Rules and the pack contents
- Five copies of the Rules of Golf
- Posters publicising the 2023 Rules which will include a QR code to make it as easy as possible for your members to download the Rules app
We hope that the copies of the Rules will be distributed among, for example, the Club Manager, the Professional and the Match & Handicap Chair, with one or two being available for members on the Club’s bookshelf, magazine rack or behind the bar.
If additional copies are required, it will be possible to order them after the initial delivery, but we don’t intend to provide hard copies for large sections of a Club’s membership.
