What is SafeGolf?

SafeGolf consists of members from the golfing bodies across Great Britain & Ireland and has been established to help golf respond to the issue of child protection in sport. Its mission is to safeguard the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf. This will be achieved through a unique partnership which has the ability to influence and act as an advocate for safeguarding across the golfing landscape, developing a consistent approach towards ensuring that all people have a fun, safe and positive experience when playing golf.

Members of SafeGolf include; England Golf, Wales Golf, Scottish Golf, Golf Ireland, The Professional Golfers’ Association, Ladies European Tour, The Golf Foundation, Golf Club Managers’ Association, the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association and The R&A.

SafeGolf Accredited Coaches

The Professional Golfers’ Association (The PGA) prioritise the safeguarding of all involved within our sport and maintain a register of all trained golf coaches who are qualified through the PGA. Our minimum standards required for coaching children are that coaches must have a Criminal Records Check (Garda Vetting/AccessNI) in place within the last three years and have attended Safeguarding training within the last three years.

PGA Professionals or PGA Assistant Professionals, attaining these standards are now designated as SafeGolf Accredited coaches and appear on this page. All EU based PGA Professionals and PGA Assistant Professionals are covered by personal liability insurance for any golf related activity.

We also ‘licence’ some amateur golfers to coach, who will have qualified through an ASQ coaching qualification. Typically they will have completed a Level 1 or Level 2 qualification and their roles will primarily involve helping introduce people into the sport. ‘Licensed’ amateur coaches are not able to take payment for coaching as they are ‘volunteers’. All EU based licensed coaches appearing in these lists have the minimum standards in place and are also covered by personal liability insurance for golf-related activity.

If you are a PGA Professional or PGA Assistant Professional and have the standards above and are not registered please contact the PGA safeguarding@pga.org.uk
